OOTACAMUND – BLUE MOUNTAINS

Ootacamund or simply known as Ooty situated in the Nilgiri Dist of Tamil Nadu state of India is a popular hill station for the people of India especially those in the Southern of India.
John Sullivan, a British liked the atmosphere of this land and acquired the large part of this land from the local tribes, slowly other British started settling here. It became the summer capital of Madras Residency. They built for them the tricky roads and railways tracks. They organized the systematic cultivation of the tea gardens and eucalyptus.
The hills around, the green vegetation, the dusty tracks and cool fresh air make Ootacamund an ideal hill station.
Now days there are commercial productions units growing the vegetables and spices.
The local economy is dominated by tourism and other related industries like hotels providing the accommodations and foods to international and domestic tourists.
Ootacamund has many historical places, like the Botanical Garden, a 22-acre garden laid in 1847, the purpose being to maintain and study the flora and plants around the Nilgiri Mountains.
Ootacamund railway station is a world heritage place, a glimpse of the British Raj.
The Ooty Lake has boating facility for the tourists.
There are other places nearby of interest like Doddabetta Peak, Ketti Valley and Pykara Falls.
The nearest airport is Coimbatore but otherwise Ooty is well connected by roads to other major cities in the state.
