Kodaikanal sometimes simply known as Kodai is in the Dindigul Dist.in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Kodaikanal is popularly known as the ‘ Princess of the Hill Stations” in India. Much of the industry is hospitality based on national and international tourists. It is common here to see Scandinavians, retired French eating the meals prepared by Tibetans.
Many retired Indians have settled down here.
Kodaikanal has its birth originated by the American Missionaries who established it to escape the tropical diseases and hot air typical of India.
Kodaikanal stands at the height of 2000 meters in the central part of Palani Hills in the Western Ghats of India.
There are many hotels in Kodaikanal serving the vegetarian non-vegetarian, Western and Indian foods. There are also hotels, which are at the international standards to serve the tourists of other countries.
There is an excellent bazaar simply known as main bazaars where one can get almost everything fancy and necessary.
Here you will get woolen clothes, flowers, typical vegetables of this region, fresh meat, hot snacks, children’s wooden toys, herbal medicines and herbal oils and spices for which Indian has a place of its own.
A lake in the center of town has boating facilities. Near the lake is Bryant Park botanical garden.
The Shenbaganur Museum has a wide collections orchids and artifacts of ancients tribes residing here.
There are excellent and exotic hiking and trekking trails in the Palani Hills, which start from Kodaikanal for the wanderers.
For the visitors there are points like Green Valley View, Pillar Rocks, Silver Rocks and Guna Caves.
From the Pillar Rocks one can see the dramatic view of Kodaikanal and Palani Hills make up.
The nearest airport is Madurai. Kodaikanal is connected by road to other major cities around this region.
