MANJIRA BIRD SANCTUARY

Andhra Pradesh, an Indian state, is bestowed with rich variety of wild life and natural beauty.

Manjira Bird Sanctuary, 50 kms from Hyderabad is located near Sangareddy in Medak district spreading over 20 sq. kms.
Nestling between Manjira and Singur barrages, the Manjira wild life sanctuary comprises of nine small islands which are home to a number of resident and migratory birds in addition to Marsh Crocodiles and Muggers.
Plants commonly found in water are Pistia, Hydrilla, Eichornia and Vallisneria.
Fishes of various species like Catla, Rahu, Murrel, Ech Paten, Karugu, Chidwa and reptiles like Monitor Lizards, Fresh Water Turtles, and Cobra etc. can be seen here.
Different species of birds found here are Painted Storks, Herons, Coots, Teals, Cormorants, Pochards, Black and White Ibises, Spoon Bills, and Open Billed Storks etc.
The sanctuary has also an Environmental Education Centre with a museum, a library and an auditorium. All these facilitate in education the visitors about nature conservation and maintenance of ecological balance.
The place is very near Hyderabad and the tourists can stay at hotels or lodges in Hyderabad and Inspection Bungalows at Sangareddy and Sadashivpet.
