Hardly there would be anybody who has an interest in Indian architectural and cultural history, has not visited the famous temple of Konark.
Konark is a small town in the Indian state of Orissa, is a famous and a world heritage site, for 13 th century Sun Temple built in black granite.
The whole temple is built in the form of chariot of God Sun, drawn by seven horses on 12 wheels.
At the entrance itself two lions sculptures are shown crushing two warring elephants, which are standing on the human bodies.
There are stone carvings everywhere in this temple depicting the graceful stride of Lord Sun.
The temple is full of carving of divine, human and semi-divine sculptures of couples and feminine standing in very sensuous poses, depicting and describing the Science of Sex, Kam Sutra.
The temple is typical of Kalinga School of Temples, situated in natural surroundings, the sandy beach, a popular tourists destination, and casuarinas and other plantations make Konark an ideal place of vacations.
The temple is famous for the annual dance festival, which is with the temple in the background.
Since Konark is only 70 kms from Bhubaneshwar the state capital, there should not be any problem to come and go in a single day.
