MAHABALIPURAM – RELIGION AND RECREATION THE BEAUTIFUL BEACH CITY

Mahabalipuram or as locally know as Mamallapuram a town of temples is famous for the seashore temple and the beach of scenic beauty. It is a place of sand and sea.
Mamall mean the great wrestler, the town was a seaport and capital of Pallava dynasty that ruled here until the 8 century A.D.
The Mahabalipurm’s pride is beautiful cave temples carved from black granite. At the some distance from Mahabalipuram there are other free standing temples, all of great sculptural monuments
The shore temple is the oldest temple in this part of India; it is an example architect style of Dravidian style. (As compared to Aryan style). When lit in the moon lit the whole temple has a mesmerizing effect on the viewer.
But Mahabalipuram is not a place of religion only, it is a place of beach, a beach area of 20 kms is full of sea lovers. Where as some people enjoy safe surfing and sun bathing, for the adventurists’ deep sea angling facility is available. The local fishermen are available on hire to take you to tour on deep sea for angling. It is really very charming to see fishing boats in the sun rise and sun set with beautiful colors of sky in the background.
There are several beach resorts to fit everybody’s pocket.
The nearest air port is Channai ( 60 kms.) , an international airport itself and the nearest railway station is Chengalpattu ( 30 kms.)
