ASIRGARH – A KEY TO SOUTHERN INDIA.

India, with the history of ancient history of centuries, has many ancient forts, passes, rivers that have been mentioned in old books of travelers that traveled to Indian, in seek of knowledge or business.
ASIRGARH Fort and the pass which it overlooks, has though lost its importance today, has an ancient history of commerce and army.
Asirgarh fort situated in Satpura Range, almost 20 kms from the Burhanpur city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, had importance because it overlooks the pass connecting the Narmada and Tapti rivers. The only way one can travel from North India to South India.
The fort has some very important places of interests.
The 10th century temple of Shiva, where people from all over India come to pay their respect. It is said that Ashwaathama, son of Guru Dronacharya, those cited in Mahabharata come here every early morning to offer his Puja to Shiva.
The fort has three lines of constructions, one the upper most known as Asirgarh proper, the second is Kamargarh, and the third is known as Malaygarh.
The Moti Mahal, the burial ground of Moti Begum the beloved queen of Shah Jehan is also here.
If you love to travel in India in a free style , smelling the old Forts, pl spend some time here. It is rewarding.
The nearest major town, Khandawa is yet another city of interests.
