KASAULI – A THROWBACK TO THE PAST

Kasauli a small cantonment town of the 19th century in Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has charms of old world, you shall travel another hundred years back.
Kasauli is still untouched by civilization , the visitor can wander the up and down the cobbled roads, with quaint houses at the side , and small gardens at the front, for hours without being come across another human during the off season November-February.
You can imagine the calmness of town, the population is hardly 5000.
The hill station was originally established by British as a cantonment in year 1842.
But the most visited local point in Kasauli is the meeting point of lower mall and upper mall, just wander here, see the typical bazaar or enjoy the hills and tracks all around.
A mixed jungle of pine, oak and chestnut encircles the hilly region around Kasauli.
From Choor Chandani, at night you can see the twinkling lights of plains.
Popular children’s book writer Ruskin Bond was born here, and in his stories the jungles and the mystic effects of Kasauli is experienced.
Christ church and Lawrence school both are living examples of colonial architecture.
The monkey point 300 m high hillock is another place to visit.
Since Kasauli is in vicinity of Shimla, another very popular hill station, Kasauli is almost managed to remain calm and over –exploited.
Kasauli is 77 kms from Shimla and 65 kms from Chandigarh, both are prominent stations with airports .
Here so many hotels are built in the colonial bungalows where staying is really a charming experience.
A visit to Kasauli and one may wish to settle down here permanently.
